Each chapter of life has a specific lesson inside it. This is not the energy of the chapter — it is the obstacle. Calculate yours.
What Are Challenge Numbers?
Challenge Numbers describe the specific lesson within each of your four life chapters. Where the Pinnacle Number describes the energy available in a chapter, the Challenge Number describes what is missing or underdeveloped. It is the obstacle inside the chapter, not the chapter itself.
Every person has four Challenge Numbers, one for each life phase, running alongside their four Pinnacle Numbers. They are calculated from the same birth date, but using subtraction rather than addition. This is why Pinnacles tend to feel like resources and Challenges tend to feel like friction.
How Challenge Numbers Are Calculated
The four components are the same as for Pinnacles: reduced month, reduced day, and reduced year from your birth date. But instead of adding them, you subtract. The first Challenge is the absolute difference between the reduced month and reduced day. The second is the absolute difference between the reduced day and reduced year. The third is the absolute difference between the first two Challenges. The fourth is the absolute difference between the reduced month and reduced year. Unlike Pinnacles, Challenge Numbers never produce master numbers. They range from 0 to 8.
EXAMPLE: Born 14 July 1990
Why Challenge Numbers Use Subtraction
Pinnacles add the components of your birth date, pointing to what accumulates and comes together in a chapter. Challenges subtract them, pointing to the gap. That is a memorable and accurate description of what they represent: not what you have, but what you lack and need to develop. The arithmetic is the meaning.
What Does Challenge Number 0 Mean?
Challenge 0 is considered the most demanding by many practitioners. It means there is no specific weakness singled out by the numbers. The person must develop their own standards without being pushed by circumstance. The 0 challenge is sometimes called the challenge of choice: without a clear obstacle forcing development, the work requires unusual internal discipline to undertake voluntarily.
